Specialty Hampers
The Food Bank tries to meet the diverse nutritional needs of the Calgarians who rely on us in temporary crisis situations. Over the years we have expanded our food distribution to include:
Prenatal Hampers
- provided to low-income expectant mothers
- clients are usually referred to the Food Bank by Best Beginnings
- essentially, it is an Emergency Food Hamper with extra milk
- this helps meet the increased nutritional needs of a pregnant woman
Baby Hampers
- distributed to families with children younger than 3 years old
- provides baby food, formula, diapers and more to struggling new parents
- helps ease the burden of parenthood in those difficult early months and years
Celiac Hampers
- our newest initiative
- are available in small quantities to clients with Celiac Disease
- we are partnering with Calgarians like Heather Anderson (who herself has Celiac Disease, and who arrives at the Food Bank once a month to build these special hampers)
- have been able to provide gluten-free items like soup, cereal, pasta, and bread
- helps reduce both the anxiety and expenses of low-income Calgarians with Celiac Disease
Why is this an important program? Learn more here.
Welcome Home Hampers
- specialized hampers for Calgarians who are transitioning from the streets to a home of their own
- are built in partnership with Community Kitchens Calgary
- Welcome Home clients are referred to the program by an agency or program working with homeless individuals and families
- food is provided by the Food Bank
- Community Kitchens adds other necessary items to get someone situated in their first home
