Oasis of Grace
Community Support
Partner Spotlight
This month, we wanted to honor and thank Oasis of Grace Multicultural Family Centre (Oasis of Grace FMC), for their hard work in hosting a satellite location for the Emergency Food Hamper Program! Oasis of Grace FMC, located in the deep NE, has a vision to leverage the power of compassion and empathy in identifying, highlighting, addressing gaps, and social inequalities that affect modern, growing, diversified communities. Their range of programming for all age groups allows them to do just that! We met with Vice-Chair, Godspower Ojeabulu to learn more about what drives the work of Oasis of Grace FMC and how they operate.
Tell us about Oasis of Grace FMC.
We know there is going to be a continuous increase in newcomers moving to Calgary due to growing federal government immigrant population targets coupled with Calgary’s attractiveness. This drives our passion to amplify universal community need voices, and to alleviate real life immigrant family, multi-generational social issues through practical solutions.
We depend on the generosity of community partners to deliver on our commitment to actively listen and address immigrant community needs in the NE & NW quadrant of Calgary city.
Our key foci are; to actively care, advocate and create safe spaces for dialogue on inequalities, support challenged immigrant communities, and foster multi-generational, meaningful and sustainable program delivery.
Tell us about your role at Oasis of Grace and what drives you to do the work that you do.
At Oasis of Grace FMC, we have a team of board members, executives and volunteers that enable our services to the community. Our board is comprised of passionate clinicians and supply chain managers driven to make a change. At Oasis of Grace FMC, we celebrate everyone and work collaboratively to support the community.
What does success look like for Oasis of Grace?
Success to us at Oasis of Grace FMC has many faces. It goes from the small tangibles wins, like providing service to an individual by pouring someone a cup of coffee, all the way to larger impacts, such as packing hundreds or thousands of hampers, or to teaching new immigrants or residents proper ways of filing taxes. Success to us is the empowerment of people in a culture and environment that is new and strange to everything they know.
What does a day in the life at Oasis of Grace look like?
A day at Oasis can be as simple as responding to emails or calls, booking deliveries to families, arranging for babysitters so young parents can have a break, counselling individuals or couples facing relationship crises, or setting up tutors and students. A day could be packing up hampers and waiting for pickups. It really varies day to day and depends on the needs of the community.
How do people access programs and services at Oasis of Grace?

Anything else you would like folks to know?
All we do at Oasis of Grace FMC reflects our commitment to helping. We don’t have all the resources and would love to have more volunteers, sponsors, and partners to reach out to more people. If you are interested in volunteering or partnering with us, send us an email at info@oasisofgrace.ca.
The Oasis of Grace FMC is no longer a Calgary Food Bank satellite location. People that live and work in the NE are encouraged to access hampers from the Genesis Centre or Sky View Community Church. The Calgary Food Bank and Oasis of Grace have balanced the needs of the community with the resources available, including limited volunteer time and skill, and have mutually agreed to this closure. We are grateful for the time, energy, and commitment of Oasis of Grace FMC, and can’t wait to see how their non-profit grows.
