Fall 2022 Comfort Food

Renovations
It has been a little over a month since we’ve completed the major portion of renovations to our emergency food hamper distribution area. We spoke with our Logistics and Inventory Manager, Mike, to understand the process for designing and implementing these renovations, as well as learn more about what’s to come.
How Did YOUR Garden Grow?
The air is crisp, and the leaves are beginning to fall. We have slipped into Autumn, and this time of year always brings a harvest of home-grown goodness.
Re-Visiting Our Roots
Once again, the long hot days of summer begin to slowly disappear into shorter, cooler days, and we look forward to the annual City-Wide Food Drive coordinated by the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints community.
Diabetic Friendly Hamper Food
Common items found in hampers, such as tomato sauce, pasta, beans, tuna, canned/fresh vegetables + fruit, breads, oatmeal or cereals, nut butters, canned soups, eggs, and rice can all be used to create diabetic-friendly snacks and meals.
How Do We Work Towards A Hunger Free Community?
With the increased cost of living and inflation not seen in 40 years, our social safety nets are fraying. Using client feedback and data, we continue to take the necessary steps to help the community.
Hamper Contents
On average, our hampers contain 16% whole grains, 26% protein, 28% fruits and vegetables, and 30% is categorized as ‘other’.

Lincoln Park
It is through the kind hearts of community members that the Calgary Food Bank can expand our reach for hamper distribution through Satellite Locations. Our location in Lincoln Park, is run by two lovely volunteers, Karen and Ward, who we spoke with about their experience with running a Satellite Location.
