EMMA AND THE FOOD BANK

Synopsis

Six, almost seven years old, Emma wonders why her Mom puts some groceries in the Food Bank donation box at the supermarket. Mom explains that some families need groceries in emergency situations. Emma wishes she was old enough to help, but she learns there is something she can do now to help the food bank. Emma and the Food Bank is a fun, educational book that helps children understand how food banks work and why giving is important. All proceeds support Calgary Food Bank programs and services.

About the Author

Sue McLure is a former teacher and a grandmother of five, Sue has volunteered for 15 years at the Calgary Food Bank. She enjoys writing and is inspired by the young people who visit the food bank, learn about its 30-year history of helping Calgarians, and want to volunteer their help.

About the Illustrator

When Val Lawton was a kid, her favourite books always had great pictures. So when it came to drawing her own pictures, she followed in the footsteps of illustrators like Ernest Shepard and Quentin Blake. It turns out Val’s pretty good at it, too, because she’s now written and/or illustrated 26 books. In addition to being a best-selling, award-winning children’s book illustrator, Val also works as an artist-educator with the Learning Through the Arts program, which means she helps kids learn by creating their own art. Val lives in Calgary with her family and two beagles.
